Pink Tulip Project

Overview

Picture of Robin and her nurse Carolyn MurphyFounded in 2006 by breast cancer survivor Robin Whitten, the Pink Tulip Project raises money and awareness by planting gardens of pale pink tulips planted across the state of Maine. The project has raised over $120,000 since its inception, 100% of which has been donated to the Women's Cancer Fund at the Maine Cancer Foundation.

The Pink Tulip Project started as one garden in Portland, Maine. By last year's planting season, the project had grown to over 80 gardens, and thousands of pink tulips bloomed in the spring. These beautiful gardens signal hope for those suffering with the disease and raise awareness in communities up and down the shores of Maine, as well as New York and Minnesota and several other locations. Over $50,000 was raised last year alone.

The Pink Tulip Project continues to grow. The 2011 season is underway, and 30,000 bulbs have been reserved for planting.

Pink Tulip Project gardens are planted in October, and bloom the following May. Registration for gardens begins in June for fall planting, and bloomings in May. Gardens need to be re-registered each year. Funds are raised to support the gardens from June to May.

The Maine Cancer Foundation, founded in 1976, is dedicated to improving the health and well being of Maine people by funding research, education, and patient support programs. 100% of funds raised remain in Maine. The Women's Cancer Fund, established in 2001, insures that resources would always be available for breast and other cancers that affect women.
